The Takehara municipal government in Hiroshima Prefecture may introduce a tourist tax on Okunoshima Island in response to an increase in littering and other overtourism-related issues.

THE TOURISM and Sports Ministry has proposed extending the current tax allowance for local tourists who visit less-popular destinations until the end of the next year.
